ECMC launches Academy Car initiative to entice newcomers to motorsport

We’re pleased to announce an exciting development at ECMC – our academy car, making it easier than ever to take part in grassroots motorsport.

Drivers new to Car Trials will be offered the opportunity to participate in a mini series for 2025.

The ECMC Academy Car will look to support up to 8 newcomers per year, initially in Car Trials, with the view to expanding to Autosolos in the future. Participants will be able to use the car at events at a subsidised rate, and will be provided with free support and tuition from experienced competitors.

Participants will compete together, and get to sample a series of hills at each Car Trial event, with an experienced passenger by their side to give them tips and tricks along the way.

The initiative will commence at an induction event later this year (more information to follow soon), before the first official Car Trial of 2025, on New Year’s Day at our Norman Perren Memorial Car Trial at Seckford, Woodbridge.

We’re really looking forward to introducing newcomers to our sport and seeing how they develop over coming events.

This is the perfect first step if you’re looking to get your first experience competing in motorsport, in a friendly and welcoming environment. We will give you everything you need to take part and no previous experience or skills are required.

Following a year’s involvement in the academy, ECMC will actively support participants who wish to continue in motorsport, by providing help to:
  • Source a car
  • Car preparation
  • Finding local events
  • Obtaining Motorsport UK licences and appropriate club membership
  • Meeting and buddying with other participants
  • Budgeting
