ECMC 2025 Award Winners

2025 was a special year for ECMC, alongside our 75th Anniversary year, for the first time in more than 30 years, many of our historic trophies have been presented once again. Each one has been carefully cleaned and restored, and we are incredibly proud to see them back in use. These trophies represent decades of competition, commitment and community, with origins reaching back to the early 1950s. Our thanks go to Peter Hanman and John Cooledge for their work in restoring them and preparing the awards for this year’s celebration.

We had an enjoyable evening recognising the achievements of our members, the hard work that goes into our sport, and the people who make ECMC the club it is. Thank you to everyone who continues to support motorsport and help it thrive across our region.

Special Awards

Spirit of ECMC – Peter Watson
A new award for 2025, presented to someone who truly embodies the ethos of our club. Peter is always cheerful, supportive and willing to help – whether competing, marshalling, maintaining our trials venue or testing classic car run routes. His positivity and commitment make him a very deserving first recipient.

Herbert Achievements Trophy – Alan Farrow
Awarded to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to the club over the past two years. Alan’s dedication behind the scenes has been invaluable, particularly in supporting the running of our car trials during a challenging period at Seckford. His innovation and perseverance have ensured our events could continue successfully.

Newcomer of the Year – James Wright
Supporting new members is central to ECMC, and James has stood out in his first year. He has embraced multiple disciplines, from car trials and autosolos to the Mince Pie Run, showing impressive progress and enthusiasm throughout.

Wedlock Trophy & Marshals of the Year – Mike & Shirley Herbert
This award celebrates a couple who are active, welcoming pillars of the club. Mike and Shirley have also earned Marshals of the Year, having supported more than 10 ECMC events, plus many others across East Anglia.

Discipline Awards

Car Trial Driver – Tim Hanman
Tim delivered an excellent season in the Dellow, narrowly beating his father, Peter. Their friendly rivalry continues to be a highlight of our trials events.

Navigational Rallying – Nick & Julie Skuse
Nick and Julie take home both the driver and navigator awards after a dominant year in AMSC 12‑car rallies. Nick also wins Autosolo Driver of the Year, having been highly active and competitive in his Westfield.

Stage Rallying
A strong year for ECMC’s stage rally crews, with one family in particular leading the way.
Driver of the Year – John Cooledge, known for his flamboyant style in the much‑loved yellow and blue Anglia.
Navigators of the Year – Louise & Laura Cooledge, who finished the season tied on points after competing in different events with different drivers.

Racing Driver of the Year – Shaun Brame
Shaun has been a front‑runner in the Locost Championship, with standout performances across the UK. His drive from the back of the grid at Snetterton—overtaking half the field in the first lap—was a particular highlight.

Chairman’s Cup

Presented annually as a piece of ECMC history, awarded by the Chair in recognition of outstanding contribution to the club.

A massive thanks to everyone who came to this year’s ECMC Prize Giving & AGM, we really appreciate your support 🙌
