ECMC Activities in 2022

So what has ECMC done in 2022?

We are not at the forefront of the news and lets be honest the clubs social media profile could do with some work – but the club is still alive and kicking and punching well above its weight…….

1st January 2022 – Norman Perren memorial Trial, Seckford

The annual running of the event.  I cannot trace the date of the first one but Tony Burchnall admits marshalling in 1963 (before the Woodbridge bypass was built). We had 27 entrants, an excellent days motorsport and raised £250.00 to Race for Dementia on behalf of Seckford Hall.

25th February 2022 – ECMC/ASMC February Fling 12 Car Training Navigational Rally, Burstall village Hall

Over the last few years, navigational road rallying in east Anglia has struggled with entries so it was decided to try and introduce some new blood. ECMC decided to take the lead and we organised and ran an evening teach-in with and a couple of short road runs.  It was very well received with support for the novices from local regular competitors. We had 13 entrants (10 runners) and was so successful it led onto further events, see below.

8th May 2022 – ECMC/WSMC Annual South Suffolk Classic Run, Woodbridge

54 Entrants, starting at Woodbridge Quay, visiting Parham Airfield Museum, and finishing at Bentwaters Cold War Museum.

£1605.00 contributed to charities:

  • East Anglian Air Ambulance
  • Woodbridge Museum
  • Woodbridge Tide Mill
  • Woodbridge Riverside Trist
  • Parham Museum
  • Bentwaters Cold War Museum

11th September 2022 – ECMC/AMSC Deben Summer Solo

Unfortunately cancelled to support national mourning period.

13th October 2022 – 12 Car virtual training (Zoom) event

It was suggested we could take some of the elements from the February teach-in and try it online – so we did!  James Leggett organised 2 hours of online presentation and tutorial with participants from far away a Hull, Northumberland, Harrogate and Diss.

65 registered interest, 35 participated on the night.

11th November 2022 – ECMC/ASMC November Novice 12 Car Training Navigational Rally, White Colne Village Hall

Designed as an extension of our previous introduction events, it involved 60 mins coaching, based in the hall and  two 15 mile runs with a stop midway for help with the second plot, again a significant number of experts turned out to help the competitors.

13 entrants (11 runners) Our efforts seem to be paying off, the first 12 car events of this 2022/2023 winters season have been fully supported.

That’s just the organising!

We have had ECMC competitors in all of the local Road Rally, Trials, Autotest, Autosolo, and Targa rally events as well as competed at National level, in events as wide apart as Tarmac Rallies, Historic Regularities and Circuit Racing. Our club members have marshalled and supplied organisational support to most of the Anglia Motor Sports Club events, which must have contributed to the AMSC winning the Motorsport UK Club of the year in 2022.

In the background, if you log onto the ECMC website you will find Leigh Trevail’s sterling efforts in tracking down the history of the club having somehow discovered more archive movies of the club in the 1950s & 60s.  This is now being placed on its own YouTube channel (see the Social Media Links)

KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN for 2023 & 2024………
